photography style
What’s your photography style? This is a tough question for most, but the following prompts should help you get to the bottom of it. Part of my job is to make sure you end up with the right photographer, whether that’s me or one of my many talented colleagues. Read on to find out more about your style, and mine too.
Style questions:
1) Dark and moody, or light and bright? Both styles create beautiful photographs. Which style do you love?
2) Indoor or outdoor? Are you planning a wedding at an elegant hotel? Outside near a vineyard?
3) Candid or posed? Some photographers do a lot of posed photographs, while others prefer a more hands-off, candid approach. Which feels comfortable for you?
4) What other words come to mind when you try to describe your photography style?
There are no rights or wrongs here, only personal preferences. Now that you know more about yours, here’s some info on where I fall with regard to the above:
1) Dark and moody, or light and bright?
My work is definitely driven by light. Natural light, golden hour, these things are all prominent features in my photographs.
2) Indoor or outdoor?
Indoor and outdoor venues vary considerably in lighting and style. While nearly all weddings eventually end up inside, the majority of weddings I photograph are largely outdoors.
3) Candid or posed?
I’m in the former camp (more candid). While I will give you as much guidance as you want on how to take advantage of the best light, form, etc. I believe that the wedding and your experience of it are sacred. I will contribute with all I have, but I will not get in the way of the story itself. (Family portraits are, of course, an exception, but I have a whole system for that piece to keep it smooth and succinct!)
4) What other words come to mind when you try to describe your photography style?
The words most commonly used to describe my work are: romantic, elegant, classic, and - my favorite - natural.
If your answers aligned with mine on three or more of the above, you’re probably in the right place. If not, please ask me for recommendations. As I mentioned earlier, there are so many talented photographers, many of whom are close colleagues and friends of mine, and I’m always happy to give recommendations.
